  2. 13. What does a broader definition of diversity mean? Why is this important to human service professionals?

A broader definition of diversity identifies human diversity. Human diversity is an inclusive term that encompasses groups distinguished by race, ethnicity, culture, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, physical or mental ability, age, and national origin. It covers the various people who comprise a society. Human service providers must be aware of other facets of human diversity that are integral to an individual's development and current status. This is very important to human service professionals because in this profession you work with many people who are different and you need to know how to work with them and know their views and beliefs. pg.128

  3. 15. What are some agency tactics as identified in the text for "cooling out" certain clients?

According to the text, agency tactics for "Cooling out" certain clients are:
    -ambiguous standards: confusing the client
-status differiential: social workers use terms that the client does not understand which makes the client feel inferior.
-inappropriate use of inquiry: this tactic forces the client to expose everything about themselves when they are not ready or willing to at that present time.
-inflexible approach to helping: demands the client to comply to the agency's rules and expectations.
-being tentative about service:causes the client to become futile.
-gradual disengagement: the social worker gradually distances themself from the client in order to discourage the individual to continue treatment.
-sidetracking: prematurely referring a client because of the social workers personal issues.
denial of service: the clients are refused service because the social worker is uncomfortable working with the client.
