ReplyDeleteOn a personal level I have never had an experience any consequences from developing friendships with colleagues besides jealousy. I have been known to put forth my best effort when ask to perform tasks. Some of my colleagues saw it as favoritism rather than me just doing my job. On several occasions I have been asked to come in on my off day to assist a supervisor or I have been pulled from an assignment to complete a different assignment. In the book jealousy is a con of forming friendships with colleagues along with power conflict, strain in the work environment, personality conflicts, and different views. Benefits that come along with forming friendships with colleagues from a personal experience is that is creates an easy and fun work environment. When I use to work for a well-known company the job was stressful and took a serious physical toll on everyone especially when we were short staffed. Establishing friends lightened the mood in the company and allowed some of that stress to be relieved. According to the text some of the pros that come with establishing relationships with colleagues are creating supportive and cohesive environments and creating alliances and friendships. (Pages 256-257)

ReplyDeleteSome roles that can be performed at a community level are Negotiating and Bargaining with Diverse Groups, Encouraging and consumer participation in decision making, establishing and carrying out interagency agreements, conducting needs assessments, acting as advocates for clients needs in various community systems, participating in policy-related activities: working as coalition builders, lobbyists, and overseers of legislative developments. pg.262
